Strengthening Food Security Through Local Rice Production
1 min read · Sep 14, 2026

Rice is a staple food across West Africa, and global conflict, supply-chain disruption, and economic uncertainty have repeatedly shown why domestic food-production capacity matters. Africa has extensive agricultural potential. The question is how much of the value associated with feeding the continent gets created and retained locally, versus depending on imports that are vulnerable to shocks far outside the region’s control.
Farming is only the first link
It’s tempting to think of food security as primarily a farming problem: grow more, and the rest follows. In practice, farming is only the first link in a much longer chain: harvest, milling, processing, packaging, and distribution all have to work together for locally grown rice to reliably reach local markets. A shortfall in milling capacity or distribution infrastructure can undercut strong farming output just as easily as a poor harvest can.
That’s why EagleNet Agribusiness is built around the full value chain, not just cultivation. Alongside direct farming, including work on irrigated land, we’re developing our own milling capability and building the packaging and distribution relationships needed to get rice from field to market consistently.
Growing with farmers, not just around them
Local, resilient food systems aren’t built by one operator scaling alone. Our farmer partnership model supplies seed to participating local farmers through an input scheme, with a buy-back arrangement for suitable harvested rice. That crop then enters our milling and distribution chain, giving farmers a dependable route to market while growing the overall volume of locally processed rice.
A deliberate pace
We’ve been engaged in rice farming for approximately three years, and we’re growing deliberately rather than overstating scale before it exists. Resilient food systems are built step by step, and we’d rather be accurate about where we are than promise more than we’ve built.
